When 17-year-old Abdulaziz Kafoud told his family he was planning to scale the highest peak in Europe, his mother implored him to rethink.
“She was only worried that I would come to some harm by undertaking a dangerous pursuit like this,” explained the youngster from Sharjah. “But I convinced her it was something I had to do for my personal achievement.”
On August 29, 2012, Abdulaziz, affectionately known to his friends as Abz, became the first Emirati to climb the 5,642m Mount Elbus in Russia.
